The 1/2 oz Krugerrand is a 22ct gold coin and weighs 16.965g which makes it 15.55174g of pure gold with copper alloy as the remaining weight. It is one of the most actively traded gold bullion coins across the world. By the 1970s/80s the Krugerrand made up 90% of the international coin market. The name Krugerrand comes from the name of the president at the time, Paul Kruger and the currency of South Africa, ‘Rand’.
