These coins are sometimes called ‘Napoleons’ because they feature his portrait, either bare headed or wearing a laurel wreath. The 20 Franc coin weighs 6.451 grams and contains 5.806 grams of pure gold.
The coin features the head portrait of Napoleon III on one side and the imperial coat of arms along with the value and year on the other side. The text “NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR” and “EMPIRE FRANCAIS” is also present on the coin. The “A” mint mark signifies that the coin was minted in Paris.
