Description
The American 2.5-dollar Indian Head gold coin, also known as the “quarter eagle,” was a United States Mint coin series, featuring a design by Bela Lyon Pratt that was minted from 1908 to 1915 and again from 1925 to 1929. These coins are notable for being the only US circulating coins with recessed designs. The 2.5-dollar “Indian Eagle,” made of 900 fine gold, is not only the first coin minted without a margin but also the last gold dollar of a series of “Quarter Eagle” coins that were in circulation in the United States as an objective means of payment. On the obverse is an Indian head capped with a war hat with Union stars around the rim and the date at the bottom, and on the reverse is an eagle on bundles with olive twigs with the denomination below
