Description
Struck between 1883 and 1896, the Gold Swiss 20 Franc Libertas is rarer than the Helvetia type, which underwent mass restrikes. The Libertas Gold 20 Francs are all original coins, making them less available. There are variations of this type due to changes in the edge pattern throughout the mintage period. Some years feature a reeded edge, while others have stars and the inscription “PROVIDEBIT,” which translates to “God will provide.” Each coin contains 6.45 grams of gold at a purity of 90%.
The obverse of this coin displays the head of Libertas facing left, with her hair tied with a ribbon, adorned with a tiara and laurel wreath. The reverse features the coat of arms of Switzerland, with a five-pointed star above, surrounded by an oak and laurel wreath.
