Description
100 Turkish Piastres (also known as Kurush) Gold coin struck in 22-carat gold and has a weight of 7.2g. All dated around the late 1990s – early 2000s. Interestingly they are marked 1923 (the year that the Turkish Republic was founded) plus the number of years since then. Adding the two numbers gives the year of mintage
The obverse of the coin features Kemal Ataturk, the first president of the Republic of Turkey. In the top of the coin are minted the words “HAKiMiYET MiLLETiNDiR” (eng. Dominance is the nation) and the name of the Turkish capital “ANKARA”, whilst the reverse features the legend “TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ” (eng. Republic of Turkey) is engraved on the reverse of the coin in the center of a wreath of oak leaves and rye bells. A little below is the year of establishment of the Turkish Republic “1923”, followed by the two digits.
