Description
The 2016 Lion of England 2oz Silver Coin is the first release in the Royal Mint’s acclaimed Queen’s Beasts series. This series celebrates the heraldic creatures that stood guard at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953. Its status as the first official two-ounce silver bullion coin from the Royal Mint adds to its appeal among collectors and investors. The Lion of England coin holds particular significance as it was the first official two-ounce silver bullion coin minted by the Royal Mint. The Lion of England is a prominent symbol in British heraldry, representing courage and nobility. The design features a crowned lion holding the royal shield, capturing the essence of this majestic creature. Both the obverse and reverse designs were crafted by Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark, who also created the definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II that has appeared on UK coinage since 2015.
