Description
The Isle of Man has produced a range of Platinum coins, such as the Noble, since 1983. Nobles are a form of legal tender, but do not have a fixed face value; much like the South African Krugerrand and the Mexican Libertad, their value is solely based on the value of their precious metal content. 1/4oz Noble Platinum coins have a purity level of 999.5, weighing 7.9g.
The obverse of the Noble coin shows the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Jody Clark, with the symbol most synonymous with the Isle of Man, the ‘Triskelion’, just above the crown of the Queen. Another Triskelion is found on the right-hand side.
The reverse features a design produced by the Pobjoy Mint of a historic Viking longship called the ‘Thusly’, flanked on either side by a pair of gliding birds, as the longship sails the ocean.
