Description
The 2007 50th Anniversary gold sovereign set comes complete with a 2007 proof sovereign and a 1957 uncirculated sovereign. This specific set celebrates the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s first appearance on modern-production UK Gold Sovereigns, which resumed in 1957. These sovereigns are struck in 22 carat gold and have a combined coin weight of 15.96 grams. This sovereign set has a very limited mintage of 250.
The obverse of the 1957 sovereign bears the Young laureate head of Queen Elizabeth II right, legend around. Whilst the reverse bears St George on horseback slaying the dragon right, date in exergue.
The obverse of the 2007 bears the fourth crowned portrait of Queen Elizabeth II right, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, legend around. Whilst the reverse bears St. George on horseback slaying the dragon right, date and designer’s initials in exergue.
What distinguishes this edition is its proof finish, which is achieved through multiple strikes with hand-prepared dies. Proof coins exhibit an attractive high-contrast appearance and are minted in smaller quantities compared to their bullion counterparts.
This sovereign 50th anniversary coin set comes complete with a box and certificate of authenticity.
