The Sovereign coin has remained a symbol of consistency through changing times. It features a flattering portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, created by artist Arnold Machin, alongside Benedetto Pistrucci’s renowned engraving of Saint George and the Dragon. This 2021 edition is one of 7,995 coins minted, with a total weight of 7.98 grams and made of 22-carat gold (91.67% pure gold).
On the obverse side of the coin, you will find the fifth crowned portrait of Queen Elizabeth II right, wearing the George IV State Diadem, legend around.. Whilst the reverse bears St. George on horseback slaying the dragon right, date and designer’s initials in exergue.
What distinguishes this edition is its proof finish, which is achieved through multiple strikes with hand-prepared dies. Proof coins exhibit an attractive high-contrast appearance and are minted in smaller quantities compared to their bullion counterparts. The 2021 proof sovereign bears a privy mark to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II 95th birthday.
These proof coins are presented in a box and a certificate of authenticity.
